Food and Nutritional Science (FNS) is a technology based international discipline which contains food chemistry, food engineering and technology; food microbiology, quality analysis and applied nutrition as the core expanse of study. Food is the basic human needs and food industry is a now a global business where nutrition is the prime concern. Food safety and security is being challenged nowadays by the global dimensions of food supply chains, the need for reduction of food waste and efficient use of natural resources. The need for trained food scientists and nutritionist has grown steadily in pace with consumer demands for convenient, safe, and nutritious food and healthy life style. Considering applied aspect of Food and Nutritional Science following subjects are studied: food processing, food chemistry, Food engineering, applied nutrition, clinical nutrition, therapeutic nutrition, dietetics, food microbiology, food preservation, food packaging, food safety and hygiene, quality control of food, beverage technology, fruit and vegetable technology, dairy technology, quality management in food industry, food plant and machine design, post-harvest technology and with visiting food industry and nutritional projects. The graduates in this discipline are employed by the government like BCS cadre, BSTI, BIRTAN, BCSIR, BARI, BARC, BAEC and world leading NGOs such as FAO, UNFDA, UNESCO, UNDP, UNICEF, BRAC, Plan Bangladesh, etc. Our graduates also have broad area of job opportunities including academic and research institutes, food industry, development work in the public, corporate, or government sector.
